So, here we are, launching the Festival Director’s blog. While there’s no doubt that it certainly is the Director’s blog, of course it’s also the blog of the person who signs his name to it, namely myself, José Luis Rebordinos. Remember that when we talk about film in particular or audiovisuals in general, we’ll also be talking about life... And that’s where it will sometimes be impossible for me to separate my professional life from the job of being a person...

This is my first blog. A blog born at a complicated time for the audiovisual world, but also at a time full of change and transformation; a time of opportunities. My first post makes its appearance with Japan devastated by a tragedy that's all too familiar to us, in a convulsive world full of conflict and misery, but at a time of hope for our little Basque Country, now closer than ever to peace... That's the context. The big picture.

The small picture is my first year as Festival director. I'm hugely excited at the prospect, and cautiously optimistic despite the difficulties of the moment.

And to end this brief comment I’d like to say a couple of things:

One is a condition. We won’t accept insulting or offensive comments on people or institutions. It goes without saying that criticism is welcome and will be accepted. But criticism doesn't have to include insults... I'd like this blog to be a meeting place between different people, a place to exchange opinions and discuss matters, a free, open place, but a place where respect for one another, for people who don't think like us or are different to us, is essential.

Secondly, I’d like to ask for patience from those of you who participate in the blog. I’ll often be unable to participate for long periods of time. The pace of my job won’t allow me to dedicate as much time to it as I’d like. But I promise that all posts signed by me will have been written by me and that no-one else will sign posts in my name.
