«Trophies are very well, but...»
MIRTHA IBARRA
Saturday, September 20th, 2008

The Cuban actress Mirtha Ibarra is not just here to form part of the Latin Horizons Jury; she’s also presenting the documentary Titón, de la Habana a Guantanamera, a homage to her late partner, the filmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, with whom she made the internationally successful Fresa y Chocolate and Guantanamera. She’s really pleased to be chairing the Latin Horizons Jury as this is one of the most important and prestigious festivals in Europe because of the quality of its films and the level of the professional who judge them.“Above all it’s really complete and offers lots of interesting innovative things".

She also thinks that this section plays a essential role: “I think that we need to give Latin American cinema all the help it can get, and the most effective way to reward it is with money. Trophies are all very well, but cinema is an industry that needs money".
