EGEDA, Industry Club launch Veosanse online screening service
Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Buyers and distributors rushing from one screening to the next at this year’s edition of the San Sebastian film festival, will have a second chance to view many titles, at the time and place of their choosing.

In recent years, the fest’s Industry Club has maintained a digital film library accessible via a special screening booth zone in the Kursaal.

This year, the Industry Club, in conjunction with Spain’s producers’ rights collection society EGEDA, and their VOD Web portal service, Filmotech.com, is launching a new online screening service for buyers – VEOSANSE – enabling buyers to watch festival films at any time and any place.

EGEDA/Filmotech implemented a similar service in late 2009, entitled VEOMAC, enabling members of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to vote in the 2010 Goya awards, and also operated a screening service (VEOSPAIN) for this year’s Madrid Film Screenings in June.

At San Sebastian, 62 shorts and features will be available for screening.“This service offers major advantages to both buyers and sellers,” explains Rafael Sanchez, Egeda’s private copyright director.

“Sellers are guaranteed security through the use of access codes, burntin viewing logos and the fact that films are streamed rather downloaded. Buyers can watch films at qualities of up to a massive 2 MBps, wherever and whenever they choose.”

One of the novelties of the service is the fact that if provides dynamic streaming – i.e. the server will automatically adjust quality in function of the bandwidth connection, thus ensuring that professionals accessing the Internet in hotels will still be able toview films without interruptions.

Comparable online screening services include the Cannes Marché’s Cinando.com which launched a free-of-charge VOD service for Ventana Sur last December. Since the market ran only four days, the service took pressure of buyers missing out on titles at the Marche-INCAA organizad Buenos Aires-based film bazaar.

Anyone interested in registering for Veosanse should contact the fest’s Industry Club that will provide free 7-digit access codes to accredited professionals.

An introductory session to the service will be held in the Kursaal,Industry Club, Room 9, on Saturday September 18, at 11 a.m.VEOSANSE will operate September 17 to October 10.
