Crossing Borders eyes Latin America
Thursday, September 27th, 2012

Film Crossing Borders is setting its sights past Europe at Latin America, holding a seminar just before and overlapping with premier Latin American film mart Ventana Sur.

Running Nov. 28-30 in Buenos Aires, the workshop aims to boost Ibero-American newbie producers’ biz connection in four major markets: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Spain.

Seminar sessions will be lead by El Deseo’s Ester García and Canana’s Pablo Cruz, among others, introducing participants to regional marketing, co-productions, development and sales.

Borders opens for applications after a San Sebastian presentation Thursday evening.

A brainchild of Spain’s Instituto Buñuel and Fundación Autor, Film Crossing Borders is the seminar franchise’s third variant after European (2003) and Mediterranean (2006) versions.

Participants will cover travel to Argentina; Fundación covers accommodation.

After two days of industry excitement, participants will pitch final projects at Ventana Sur, courting co-production and financing.

“Without the industry, there can’t be filmmakers, nor vice versa. This program is a way to support the industry, to help create and foster new talent,” said Instituto Buñuel director, Inés Paris.”
