Animation Pioneer wins Zinemira Award
Friday, September 20th, 2013

Juanba Berasategi, the cartoonist and producer from Guipuzcoa who has been a pioneering figure in animated films in the Basque Country, will be receiving the Zinemira Award this year. Berasategi comes from the world of illustration, and made his first film, La estrella de Oriente, an animated short, in 1977 when it was premiered at the San Sebastián Festival. The Zinemira Award ceremony will take place on the 24th of September during the Zinemira Gala that will be held in the Victoria Eugenia Theater.

The section will also include a selection of short films from the Kimuak 2012 programme, which will be screening seven of the most outstanding Basque short films from the last year. Two of these will also be shown as part of the Zabaltegi section: Hotzanak For Your Own Safety, by Izibebe Oñederra, and Zela Trovke (Cutting Grass) by Asier Altuna.
