«It’s so unfair to say that one film is better than the others»
Saturday, September 28th, 2013

This year the Mexican actor and director Diego Luna hasn’t brought a film to San Sebastián; he’s here as a member of the Official Jury, a task that he says is totally different. “They invite you to be a deluxe member of the audience and there’s no pressure or the agony you go through when you present a film to the public.” He also says that it’s a great opportunity not just to watch films but to discuss them and compare ideas with colleagues he really admires, as well as to analyse the process that other directors and actors follow so that you can then question your own

“As a juror at the Festival, the truth is that I try not to think much about the responsibility of the prizes; I try to sit down and watch the films with detachment without letting them affect me too much, while trying to be as objective as possible.”

In any case, he thinks that the awards aren’t the most important thing about a festival. “Awards are so subjective, and it’s so unfair to say that one film is better than the others.
