The reluctant jury member
Saturday, September 20th, 2014

The German cinematographer Reinhold Vorschneider came late to his profession when he enrolled at the Berlin Academy of Cinema and television when he was already in his 30s, but since then he has worked with a wide variety of directors, basically on documentaries and arty films.

Although he visited San Sebastián in the 1980s he didn’t know about the festival, and this is also the first time that he has formed part of a jury. He says that he finds it really hard to judge other people’s work, which is why up to now he has always turned down offers to be a member of a jury. “The thing is that I don’t like ranking films much; I’d prefer it if there weren’t a prize for the best film; and I’d prefer them to share out more special mentions, because there are a lot of films that have something good about them.”
