No better place to be a critic!
Monday, September 21st, 2015

The Majorcan director Daniel Monzón is forming part of the Official Jury this year. He confesses that he’s not very comfortable judging otherfilmmakers’ work, despite the fact that he previously worked as a film critic. However, given that he’d already rejected the offer to work on the jury on two previous occasions, he felt morally obliged to accept this year. “If I have to work on a jury, there’s no better place to do it than here! San Sebastián is the most important festival we have in Spain and I’m really fond of it.”

He reveals that he first started coming here as a young film fan, then as a critic and in the year 2000 he presented his first film El corazón del guerrero here. He thinks that being open-minded and having eclectic tastes help him when it comes to judging films and that all he asks of a film is that it moves something inside him. “There’s nothingworse than leaving a cinema feeling the same as when you went in.”
