Felix Van Groeningen graduated in 2000 at the KASK (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Ghent, after having taken his post-graduate studies in Audiovisual Arts. He has directed and written plays with the Kung Fu company, also from Ghent. His film De Helaasheid der dingen (The Misfortunates, 2009), premiered at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes. Alabama Monroe, his most successful film to date and a huge phenomenon in Belgium and Holland, was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award in 2012. Beautiful Boy is his first film in English.
