Damien Chazelle shot his first film, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (2010) while studying at Harvard University. His short film Whiplash (2013), winner of the Short Film Jury Prize at Sundance, was the basis of the homonymous feature film which he directed in 2014 and which won three Academy Awards. In 2017 he enjoyed enormous success with the musical La La Land, winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Director, making him the youngest filmmaker ever to receive the award. First Man opened the Official Selection competition at the last Venice Festival.
