Famous author and historian Lara Cabanes is given the job of investing a death dating back to the 16th century. The Augustinian Antonio de Román died in strange circumstances after earning a chair at the University of Salamanca. Her main guide will be the letters of Friar Luis de León, in which he narrates his arrival to the University when only a young novice aspiring to become an Augustinian monk. Through an investigation which is increasingly more complicated and dangerous, Lara Cabanes will discover a 16th century marked by the fight of the Inquisition against the new ideas spreading through Europe. A fight which will clash with the love of knowledge promoted among his students by Antonio de Román. However, unbounded ambition and the war for power are not only things of the past and Lara’s investigation will be full of painful discoveries and betrayals...

Among his most important works are the documentary Qué tienes debajo del sombrero (2006), co-directed with Lola Barrera, and episodes for series including El tiempo entre costuras (2013), Sin identidad (2015), La sonata del silencio (2016), Víctor Ros (2016) or El accidente (2018). His work Amigo no gima (2004) was nominated for the Goya for Best Short Film.
