Two teens from San Gregorio Atlapulco, Cagalera and Moloteco, are desperate to escape from the oppressive circumstances of their existence. Hearing about the opportunity to purchase membership in an electricians' guild, which could transform their lives, they enter the spiral of Mexico City's dark criminal world in a bid to buy their freedom. Known above all for his facet as an actor in films such as Amores perros, Y tu mamá también (And your Mother Too), Diarios de motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries) and No, Gael García Bernal (Guadalajara, Mexico. 1978) made his directorial debut with Déficit (2007), premiered at the Cannes Festival’s Semaine de la Critique. He directed the segments The Letter, Lucio and Love of My Life for, respectively, the omnibus films 8 (2008), Revolution (2010) and Madly (2016). In 2010 he directed, with Marc Silver, Los invisibles, four shorts for Amnesty International, and in 2015 made the short film La mano visible (The Invisible Hand), for the Sundance Institute Short Film Challenge. He has also directed episodes for the series Aquí en la tierra (Here on Earth) and Mozart in the Jungle. Chicuarotes, his second feature film, premiered out of competition at the last Cannes Festival.
