The goddess Mari entrusts her two sons, both born to a mortal father, to the Devil for their education. When they reach their majority, one, Mikelats, decides to stay with the master, while the other, Atarrabi, flees. But the Devil succeeds in retaining his shadow.
Eugène Green (New York, 1947) has lived in France since 1969. He has written and directed eight feature films: Toutes les nuits (1999), Le monde vivant (2003), shown in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the Cannes Festival, Le Pont des Arts (2004), which participated in the Cineasti del presente section at Locarno Festival, A religiosa portuguesa (2009), La sapiena (2014), Le fils de Joseph (2016), screened in the Forum section of Berlin Festival, and En attendant les barbares (2017), Prince of Asturias Award for Best Feature Film at Gijon Festival. He has also published books of essays, poetry and six novels.
